Upward Bound
Upward Bound is a federally funded project located on the campus of Pikeville College dedicated specifically to helping Eastern Kentucky youth succeed in high school and at the postsecondary level.
Upward Bound was created by the 1964 Economic Opportunities Act. A year later Upward Bound joined two other special programs for students from varied backgrounds, Talent Search and Student Support Services, under authorization of Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965. The three programs are collectively referred to as “Federal TRIO Programs.”
Pikeville College’s Upward Bound program began in 1975 and has helped thousands of students gain new experiences and develop academically and culturally in a safe and secure environment.
Upward Bound consists of two parts: Academic Year & Summer Program.
