How do I apply for housing?
New students who would like live on campus during the school year must complete a housing contract. The contract may be downloaded here and mailed to the residence life office along with a $50 housing deposit.
Am I required to be on a meal plan?
Yes. All students living on campus are required to purchase a meal plan. When you arrive on campus during move-in day you will be asked to select your meal plan.
May I request a roommate?
Yes. On the housing contract you will be asked to identify a preferred roommate (of the same gender). We will make every effort to honor your request. If you do not list a roommate preference, you will be placed with another student based on the lifestyle preferences listed on your housing contract.
May I request a private room?
Yes. Private rooms are available for upperclassmen on a limited basis. A fee of $500 per semester will be assessed. Private rooms, when available, will be awarded based on seniority.
When will I receive my room assignment?
New student assignments are typically made in July. Assignments are based on the date the application and deposit are received. Assignment letters are sent by mail.
What if my roommate is different than I requested?
We make every effort to match you with a roommate based on the information you provide on the housing contract. Limited space is available, so we are not always able to change your housing assignment. After the school year begins, a student may contact the hall director to request a change.
Where may I do my laundry?
Each hall has a laundry room equipped with coin-operated washers and dryers.
Where do I receive my mail?
Mailboxes are located in the campus post office which is in the Marvin Student Center. To obtain a mailbox, visit the Student Services office to receive a box number and combination.
Who cleans my room?
You. Each student is responsible for cleaning his/her own room. A member of the custodial staff cleans community baths and the suite bathrooms in Page Hall. Hall staff conduct cleanliness checks once a week and rooms failing to meet the cleanliness standard will be assessed a fee.
Where can I study?
There are common areas in some of the halls that serve multiple purposes and may be used as a study area. Students may also prefer to visit Allara Library to study.
In all residence halls, quiet hours will be observed after 9 p.m. on all nights except Friday and Saturday. On those two nights, quiet hours will be observed after 10 p.m.
Where can I find the rules and regulations for living on campus?
The rules and regulations can be found in the Pikeville College Residence Hall Guide. It is the responsibility of each student to be familiar with the hall guide and adhere to the policies.
When is visitation?
Students may have guests of the opposite sex visit during specific times. See the Residence Hall Guide for complete guidelines.
Visitation in the residence halls is permitted at the following times:
- Sunday through Thursday – Noon to midnight
- Friday and Saturday – Noon to 2 a.m.
Visitation in the main lounge areas of residence halls is permitted Sunday through Thursday from midnight until 2 a.m.
If I need help, whom should I contact?
The Resident Assistant (RA) is available to help answer any questions about campus or your living community. You should feel free to visit any of the RAs in your building at any time.
Each residence hall has a live-in director. Your residence hall director is available to assist you with any issues you may have.

May I keep firearms and other objects in my room?
No. Any object with the potential to cause bodily harm is strictly prohibited. These items include: handguns, shotguns, fireworks, swords, bows and arrows, knives and martial arts weapons, etc.
When are the residence halls closed?
The residence halls close for a number of breaks and holidays. Students must vacate the rooms during these times:
- Christmas Break
- Spring Break
- Summer Break (students must completely move out at this time)
