Streaming Media Troubleshooting Tips
Having difficulty viewing streaming media? Try reviewing these troubleshooting tips.
Error message: “Windows Media Player cannot perform the requested action at this time.”

Please note that the Pikeville College streaming media service does not utilize a proxy server. If you are having proxy server related issues, please check your Media Player settings or check with your Internet Service Provider.
Error message: “Windows Media Player cannot play the file because the specified protocol is not supported. If you typed a URL in the Open URL dialog box, try using a different transport protocol (for example, "http:" or "rtsp:").”

Error message: “Windows Media Player cannot play the file because a network error occurred. The server might not be available. Verify that you are connected to the network and that your proxy settings are correct.”

Error message: “The server name may not be correct, the server might not be available, or your proxy settings may not be correct.”
Try manually setting Media Player’s bandwidth. To do this:
- In Media Player select ‘Tools’ and then select ‘Options...’
- Click on the ‘Performance’ tab
- Under ‘Connection speed’ click the radio button next to ‘Choose connection speed:’
- Select a connection speed in the drop-down list and click ‘OK’
- Experiment with various speeds until you are able to get the highest desired connection to the streaming media that your Internet connection will support.
