A message from the President
At Pikeville College, our students’ success is at the heart of everything we do. We have a strong commitment to academic excellence and a long tradition of providing opportunities for higher education with a broad liberal arts and sciences foundation in the Appalachian region.
The 122-year heritage of Pikeville College is a proud one, of which I am honored to be a part. We are a Christian institution affiliated with the Presbyterian Church and pride ourselves in our commitment to character education.
We are a small college and proud of it. You are not just a number here. The close personal attention that is so much a part of the Pikeville College experience combines with academic strength to give our graduates a distinct advantage. Attending a small college does not equate to wanting less out of a college education, it means being more of an individual and less of a mosaic. Our students have more opportunities to develop leadership and networking skills, to be involved in teambuilding and social activities and to develop closer relationships with faculty and fellow students.
Since its inception in 1997, the Pikeville College School of Osteopathic Medicine (PCSOM) has been a true Kentucky story and a true Kentucky success. Nationally ranked as one of the top 20 U.S. medical schools in rural medicine by U.S. News & World Report, we’re making significant progress toward our mission to help alleviate the shortage of primary care physicians in rural Kentucky and Appalachia. The medical school also ranked fourth in the country in the percentage of graduates entering primary care residencies. We are proud of what PCSOM has done to improve the quality of life of the people in Appalachia.
Thank you for your interest in Pikeville College. As we move forward, our focus will be in the future what it has been in the past, the students! We are blessed to have the support of so many who understand how special the undergraduate college and school of osteopathic medicine are to those we serve.
Paul E. Patton
