Scholarships and Grants

The Financial Aid Office will provide students with information on scholarship notices that are sent to the office. The office currently has information on the following programs:

A. B. Morrill Fund
Applicants must be from the Southern Mountain District (as defined by the foundation) with plans to return to the area to practice medicine.

Alabama Osteopathic Medical Association
Applicants must intend to return to the state of Alabama to practice medicine for a minimum of one year after completing medical school, internship and residency.

American Association of University Women Educational Foundation

American Osteopathic Foundation
The AOF offers a variety of grant, scholarship, and award opportunities to osteopathic medical students, residents, physicians, researchers, and osteopathic centers/programs. Arkansas Department of Higher Education Grant
Applicants must be resident of Arkansas. A $5000 grant is awarded to one entering Arkansas student.

Arthur E. Dannin Osteopathic Educational Foundation

Berkshire District Medical Society
The Scholarship Committee of the Berkshire District Medical Society awards interest-free loans on an annual basis to residents of Berkshire County, Massachusetts.

Colorado Society of Osteopathic Medicine
Applicants must plan to practice within the state of Colorado upon completion of his/her residency and be either a Colorado resident, a graduate of a Colorado high school, college, or university. The applicant must either be a second- or third-year student in an osteopathic medical school for the upcoming year. The applicant cannot be a recipient of any full-tuition scholarship. Denver Osteopathic Foundation
Scholarships are offered to third- and fourth-year students from Colorado who plan to complete a residency program and wish to practice in Colorado. Consideration is given to residents of Colorado, or to those who have lived, worked, or attended undergraduate college in Colorado. Indian Health Service Professions Scholarship Program

Indiana Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons
For Indiana students who are in the first or second years of study at one of the 25 osteopathic medical schools. Interested students may call (800) 942-0501.

Kansas Osteopathic Medical Service Scholarship
This program is designed to encourage primary care physicians to establish practices in rural areas of Kansas. Recipients receive $15,000 per year for up to four years of study at nationally accredited osteopathic schools. Preference goes to first year students. Recipients return one year of practice for each year of assistance. Applicants must complete a program application and the designated financial aid application. Priority Deadline: May 1.

Kentucky Medical Association Rural Kentucky Medical Scholarship Fund
This program is for medical graduates. Recipients will be eligible to receive a total of four disbursements from the program over a total of seven years of practice in a designated county. The disbursement schedule is as follows: $20,000 after the first year, $30,000 after the third year, $30,000 after the fifth year and $30,000 after the seventh year.

Muskegon General Osteopathic Foundation
For medical students, residents, and practicing physicians who reside in the geographical area of the Western Michigan Osteopathic Association who have been accepted to medical education programs accredited by the AOA.

National Health Service Corps Scholarship
The National Health Service Corps scholarship pays tuition, required fees, and some other education costs, tax free, for as many as four years. Education costs may include books, clinical supplies, laboratory expenses, instruments, two sets of uniforms and travel for one clinical rotation. Recipients also receive a monthly living stipend.

New Jersey Osteopathic Education Foundation
Scholarship applicants must be established residents of New Jersey and must have completed four years of premedical education including a minimum of eight semester hours of biology, eight semester hours of inorganic chemistry, eight semester hours of physics and six semester hours of English.

Scholarship applications and all accompanying paperwork must arrive no later than April 30.

Northwest Osteopathic Medical Foundation

Osteopathic Foundation of Yakima

Osteopathic Medical Foundation of Michiana
For applicants who demonstrate an interest in locating to the northwestern Indiana/southwestern Michigan area to practice osteopathic medicine; (“area” is defined as being within a 30-mile radius of South Bend, Indiana … Indiana counties included: St. Joseph, Marshall, Elkhart, Kosciusko, Starke and LaPorte. Michigan counties included: Berrien, Cass and St. Joseph).
The Forgivable Loan Program award is $10,000 per year to help assist students in their 1st to 4th years of study.

Osteopathic Medicine Scholarship
This scholarship is available to all Kentucky residents. The scholarship equalizes tuition between PCSOM and the state medical schools. The average scholarship amount for the past two years has been $8060. By signing the scholarship contract, the student is agreeing to practice primary care in Kentucky one year for every year the scholarship money is received. There will be a penalty for failure of complying with the contract.

Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association Foundation
A. Archie Feinstein
Available to Pennsylvania residents (Prior to entering osteopathic medical school) who will be entering their third or fourth year of any college of osteopathic medicine in the U.S.

Alfred A. Grilli
Available to Western Pennsylvania residents (prior to entering osteopathic medical school) who will be entering the last year of any college of osteopathic medicine in the U.S.

District 8
Scholarships are available to Pennsylvania residents (prior to entering osteopathic medical school) of District 8 of the POMA who will be entering the third or fourth year of any college of osteopathic medicine. District 8 counties are: Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Fayette, Greene, Indiana, Somerset, Washington and Westmoreland.

Sherry R. Arnstein Minority Student Scholarship
Eligibility: To be eligible, an applicant must be an underrepresented minority student in good academic standing and currently enrolled in his or her first, second, or third year at an AACOM member college of osteopathic medicine OR an underrepresented minority student who has been accepted and is planning to matriculate at one of the AACOM member colleges. Previous Arnstein Scholarship awardees are ineligible.

Corporate Grant Scholarship
Must be a SOMA member with 50 percent SOMA involvement, 25 percent financial need and 25 percent academic achievement. Amounts range from $300–$1,000.

Medical Education Scholarships
Must be a SOMA member with 33 percent involvement, 33 percent campus and community
activities and 33 percent academic achievement.

Tucson Osteopathic Medical Foundation 2000-2001 Founders’ Awards Program
Applicants must be enrolled or intending to enroll full time for the upcoming academic year and must be seeking a D.O. degree. Residents of the seven southernmost counties of Arizona (defined for the purpose of the program as Cochise, Graham, Greenlee, Pima, Pinal, Santa Cruz, and Yuma) will receive first consideration. Residents of other counties of Arizona may be considered for awards if there are an insufficient number of qualified candidates from these seven counties. U.S. Air Force Health Professions Scholarship
This scholarship will pay for tuition and all required fees. You will also receive a monthly allowance for living expenses. Selected applicants may receive a $20,000 sign-on bonus in addition to the scholarship.

U.S. Army Medical Department—Financial Assistance Program (FAP)
Eligibility: Be a resident in a fully accredited specialty training program in medicine or dentistry, and in good standing therein. Be eligible for appointment as a commissioned officer in the United States Army. You will receive an annual grant and a monthly living stipend.

U.S. Navy Scholarship
This scholarship will pay for tuition and all required fees. You will also receive a monthly allowance for living expenses.

Waterbury Medical Association
Applicants must be resident of Connecticut for five years and currently be enrolled in medical school. Students demonstrating financial need, academic excellence, extracurricular interest and community service, will be strongly considered.

Washington Osteopathic Foundation, Inc.
Loans:
Any osteopathic student, after one semester or 1/4 of osteopathic training in any of the legally accredited schools of osteopathic medicine or surgery, may apply for a loan. Applicant must be a student member of the Washington Osteopathic Medicine Association. Loan Amounts have a maximum of $5,000 per year.

Scholarships:
Students must have completed two years of osteopathic training in any of the legally accredited schools of osteopathic medicine or surgery to apply for the scholarship.
