There will be a penalty for failure of complying with the contract. Deadline: July 1 for entering students, May 1 for returning students.
Kentucky Medical Association Rural Kentucky Medical Scholarship Fund
Since 1945, the Kentucky Medical Association Rural Kentucky Medical Scholarship Fund (RKMSF) has provided loans/scholarships to students in medical school in return for designated years of service following the completion of the study. The fund has been restructured from providing loans to awarding grants to those who agree to practice in critically underserved counties of the state.
Recipients will be eligible to receive a total of four disbursements from the program over a total of seven years of practice in a designated county. The disbursement schedule is as follows: $20,000 after the first year, $30,000 after the third year, $30,000 after the fifth year and $30,000 after the seventh year.
The RKMSF grant program designation list is compiled annually in December. Applicants may choose from the designation list that is current at the time of the agreement. There are 40 counties from which to choose.
Applications must be received by March 1. Selected applicants will be interviewed by the board of directors. The RKMSF will select up to two new recipients per year. Those who currently reside and/or practice in a critically underserved county are not eligible for the grant.
