PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Olivet Nazarene University used a 16-4 run late in the second half to overcome Pikeville College 108-101 in the finale of the 2009 Gatti’s Classic.

Pikeville (9-4) took an 86-81 lead with 7:13 remaining when sophomore guard Megan Mosley scored on a layup. But after that, the Tigers took control.

Olivet Nazarene (8-6) got points from five different players, and when freshman Rachel Kearney scored on back-to-back layups – the last coming with 3:48 left – the Tigers led 97-90. The stretch took 4:25 and Pikeville could never recover.

Junior Simone Coburn had a double-double with 29 points and 11 rebounds to lead four Tigers in double figures. Sophomore Danielle Pipal flipped in 12, thanks to hitting all six free throws, while Kearney came off the bench for a dozen. Senior Courtney Neil finished with 10.

The Lady Bears got 37 points from junior Natiera Hinton. She also had eight rebounds, eight assists and seven steals in the loss. Mosley finished with a double-double of 19 points and 10 assists while turning the ball over only once in 36 pressure-packed minutes. Junior Lakia Bailey tossed in 13 points and pulled six rebounds.

Alexis Johnson, the only senior on the Lady Bear roster, finished with nine points, 13 rebounds and three blocked shots. The Imperial, Calif., product led Pikeville to a 59-49 advantage on the glass.

Pikeville is now finished for the Christmas break, returning to action on Jan. 2 when they host U.Va.-Wise at 2 p.m. at the East Kentucky Expo Center. The men’s teams will follow at 4 p.m.
