PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The Pikeville College soccer teams reaped the rewards of the hard work they put in during the preseason with a pair of impressive wins last week over Tennessee Temple University. On Monday night, two of their players reaped the benefits of their efforts during those wins.
Kara Henning and Andrew Martin were named Offensive Players of the Week by the Mid-South Conference after the women rolled to an 18-0 win last Tuesday and the guys followed it with a 5-1 victory.
Henning, a 5-5 freshman defender from Amelia, Ohio, scored four goals in her first collegiate game to earn MSC Offensive Player of the Week. Henning’s goals helped the Bears to a win over visiting Tennessee Temple University.
Martin, a 6-1 sophomore forward from Batavia, Ohio, scored a hat trick in the Bears’ win over Tennessee Temple University to earn MSC Offensive Player of the Week. With his three goals, Martin vaulted to the top goal scorer in the Mid-South Conference following the first week of play.
“Our teams have worked very hard in the preseason and that allowed us to do exactly what we wanted in our openers,” said Coach Ken DeCook, in his third season as head coach of the Pikeville College soccer programs. “Kara and Andrew played very well in those wins, and their teammates played a key role as well by finding them in positions to score. I’m very proud of them for their hard work and their teammates should take a lot of pride in this as well.”
Pikeville will return to action on Friday when they play in the Freed-Hardeman University Lions Cup tournament in Henderson, Tenn.
