PIKEVILLE, Ky. — Pikeville College fans who were unable to make it to Wichita in April to watch the Lady Bears win their second national bowling championship will be able to see the action Wednesday night.
For the fifth consecutive year, CBS College Sports Network will showcase the pinnacle event of the college bowling season — the 2008 United States Bowling Congress Intercollegiate Team Championships, presented by Storm — by airing the women’s and men’s national championship this week.
The women’s national championship between top-ranked defending champion Wichita State and No. 2 Pikeville will air Wednesday, June 4, at 8 p.m. EDT. Two days later, Wichita State goes for its eighth national title against upstart UNLV in the men’s national championship on Friday, June 6, at 8 p.m. EDT.
Satellite customers can find CBS College sports on DirecTV on channel 610 and Dish Network on channel 152.
“We’re very excited about finally getting to see this telecast,” said Ron Damron, who has coached the Lady Bears to both national titles, the only team championships this school owns. “CBS College Sports does a fine job with the ITCs and we’re thrilled to be back on the broadcast again.”
The USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships, presented by Storm, featured the top 16 men’s and top 16 women’s college bowling teams in the country vying for national titles.
CBS College Sports’ broadcast team for the championships include analyst Lynda Barnes, 2008 USBC Queens champion and a former collegiate All-American, and play-by-play voice Mike Jakubowski.
The telecasts, originating from Northrock Lanes in Wichita, Kan., will feature comprehensive coverage of the championship matches, including features on premier collegiate bowlers and interviews with All-Americans. In addition, select players — including Pikeville’s Kayla Bandy — will wear microphones during the championships, providing an intimate, insider’s view of the action.
