MSC attendance record broken as Bears split with Georgetown
PIKEVILLE, Ky. Pikeville College set a single-game Mid-South Conference regular season attendance record on Thursday night at the Eastern Kentucky Exposition Center.
A crowd of 3,558 watched Pikeville and visiting Georgetown College split a doubleheader. The previous mark was 2,208 at University of the Cumberlands.
“Other than the women losing, it was a perfect night,” Pikeville College coach Kelly Wells said. “It was a huge deal for us. It showed that in every facet of the game that hard work pays off.
“There was a lot of hard work from Danny VanHoose and the entire Appalachian Wireless staff and Bruce Walters and all of the sponsors and people who worked to make this happen. All departments of the college came together and worked on this also. It was just a great night.”
The record-setting crowd watched the Lady Bears fall short of the comeback bid as Pikeville fell to Georgetown 76-72 in the opener.
In the nightcap, the Bears never trailed over the last 13 minutes en route to a 76-65 win.
