CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – No. 21 Campbellsville University opened league play by holding down the home-court advantage and bouncing No. 6 Pikeville College 63-57 Thursday night.

Campbellsville improved to 13-4 on the season with the win, and was the only Mid-South Conference men’s team to win at home on opening night.

Pikeville fell to 12-2 on the season and will need to bounce back quickly; they play host to Lindsey Wilson College Saturday at 4:30. The Raiders opened league play with a 71-58 win at Rio Grande Thursday night.

The game came to a standstill with 14:04 remaining when Pikeville junior Andre Thornton was fouled by Campbellsville junior Leon Hart. The two came up shoving and throwing punches, resulting in the ejection of both for what was termed “flagrant technical fouls.”

At the time the Tigers led 40-38. The two will miss their games on Saturday with the ejections.

Campbellsville had two players lead them to the win. The Tigers were 7-of-27 from the arc, but all seven three’s came from senior point guard T.J. Bishop. Averaging 7.4 points per game, Bishop tossed in 26 points in the win to lead all scorers.

He was helped inside by senior Nestor Colmenares, who finished with 16 points and 17 rebounds. Seven of the rebounds came off the offensive glass to keep the Tigers in possession of the basketball, particularly late in the game when they milked the clock and preserved the lead.

Pikeville was led by senior J.C. Clark, who finished with 23 points and tied for rebounding honors with six for the Bears. Clark was 11-of-12 from the free throw line in the loss.

Senior Anthony Smith followed with 10 points and seven rebounds.
