Lady Bears end losing streak with win over WVU Tech

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Four players reached double figures and one recorded a double-double as the Lady Bears of Pikeville College ended a five-game losing streak with an 83-71 win over WVU Tech Saturday afternoon.
Pikeville (15-13, 3-9 in the Mid-South Conference) shot 54.9 percent for the game. After hitting half their 28 shots in the first half, the Lady Bears heated up even more after the break, nailing 60.9 percent for the 12-point win.
Pikeville established an early lead and never let it get away. The edge was 38-30 at the half.
Junior Natiera Hinton led the Lady Bears with 22 points and 12 rebounds, hitting 6-of-7 from the free-throw line in the win. Junior Lakia Bailey followed with 19 points off the bench, while senior Alexis Johnson tossed 12 points while junior Lauren Potts tossed in 10 off the bench.
WVU Tech (10-16, 1-10) also had three players in double figures, led by junior Shyla Jones who had 26 points and 12 rebounds, eight of which were off the offensive glass. Junior Kerin Roache followed with 15 points while junior Ashley Blaney also recorded a double double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Pikeville will return to action on Thursday night at the East Kentucky Expo Center when they play host to the University of Rio Grande at 6 p.m. It will be Senior Night for Lady Bear Alexis Johnson, who will be honored in a pregame ceremony.
WVU Tech will be back in action on Thursday as well, traveling to Lindsey Wilson for a 7 p.m. EST start.
