PIKEVILLE, Ky. – A furious Pikeville College rally fell just short on Saturday as the Lady Raiders of Lindsey Wilson College held on for a 65-61 win.

The win evened Lindsey at 4-4 in Mid-South Conference play and improved them to 14-8 overall. The Lady Bears slipped to 14-10 overall, 2-6 in the league.

Lindsey Wilson stormed out of the gate and pushed its lead to 32-13 after back-to-back baskets by junior Viktoria Krell with 5:19 left in the first half. The halftime lead was 40-27.

But Pikeville came back, pulling within two points late. A jumper by junior Natiera Hinton fell short with eight seconds left. Forced to foul, Lindsey missed both free throws with six seconds remaining but junior Diondra Anthony, a 5-7 guard, got the rebound and hit both free throws with two seconds left to seal the deal.

Pikeville was led by Hinton’s 21 points and 11 rebounds, pacing four players in double figures. She was followed by sophomore Megan Mosley’s 12 points. Junior Whitney Compton added 11 and five rebounds, while junior Lakia Bailey came off the bench with 10 points and six rebounds.

Lindsey Wilson had a pair of double doubles, with junior Bethany Spillman finish with 19 points and 10 rebounds, while Anthony had 13 points and 10 rebounds. Krell fell just shy with 16 points and nine boards.

Pikeville will be back in action on Thursday night at the East Kentucky Expo Center when they host Campbellsville at 6 p.m.

Lindsey Wilson will stay home next Thursday, hosting the University of Rio Grande at 6 p.m. central.
