WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — Junior Madison Flowers hit six of her seven three-point shots in the first half to build a big lead and give the University of the Cumberlands a 90-61 win over Pikeville College Saturday afternoon.
Flowers, a 5-8 junior from Somerset, finished 7-of-11 from the arc for 25 points and also pulled down 13 rebounds. She was one of five Lady Patriots in double figures in the final game of the 2008 regular season.
Cumberlands (22-7, 8-2) finished 13-of-28 from the arc, a remarkable 46.4 percent.
Pikeville (6-23, 1-9), on the other hand, hit only 37.1 percent from the field and had three players in double figures in the loss. Freshman Whitney Compton came off the bench for 16 points and eight rebounds, half of them being offensive. Freshman Shalane Moore tossed in 13 while senior Heather English added 10.
Flowers led five players in double figures for the Lady Patriots. Sophomore Sonia Thompson came off the bench with 18 points and seven rebounds. Crystal Taylor and Brittanie Ware had 12 points each, while Amber Neace tossed in 11.
Senior Lissi Fuller, in her final game at the O. Wayne Rollins Center, had four points to go with eight assists and four steals.
Pikeville will be back in action on Saturday at noon in the East Kentucky Expo Center in the opening round of the Mid-South Conference tournament. Cumberlands will be the No. 2 seed and get a bye into Sunday’s semifinals.
