Pikeville College has been a longtime advocate of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce, a partnership that was reflected in the 53rd Annual Chamber Banquet and Awards Ceremony July 16.
President Paul E. Patton was named Citizen of the Year by the chamber, joining several other prominent businesses, organizations and individuals in receiving honors.
“All I’ve achieved in my adult life I owe to the people of Pike County,” Patton said as he accepted the award. “I hope that my service in some way has repaid you for your support.”
Pikeville College alumnus J.R. Blackburn received the Volunteer of the Year award and was recognized for his work in the community, the chamber’s Ambassador Club and other committees. He was also installed as chairman of the Pike County Chamber’s Board of Directors.
Jim Workman, chief technology officer for the college, has been a member of the chamber’s board for several years and will now serve as vice chairman. In addition to serving as chairman of the information technology committee, Workman is a member of the Pike County Ambassador’s Club and a graduate of Leadership Pike County.
Members of the Leadership Pike County Class of 2010 were also recognized and include Carlo Rangaraj, assistant professor of physiology at Pikeville College, Roy Howell, assistant vice president for human resources and Pikeville College senior Mitch Copley.
