PIKEVILLE, Ky. — In a very tough quarterfinal matchup at the Mid-South Conference Tournament, fourth-seeded Pikeville College advanced by defeating fifth-seeded Lindsey Wilson College 76-69 in a game played at the East Kentucky Expo Center.
The win gave the Bears the win of the season series after splitting the regular-season meetings.
Pikeville (22-8) overcame a 33-26 halftime deficit and regained the lead 44-43 with 14:46 to play when William Harris hit a three-pointer. From there, Lindsey Wilson would lead just once more at 54-53 with 10:47 remaining when George Thomas found Quintez Thomas for a layup.
The Bears then spread it out to a seven-point lead at 64-57 with 5:58 to play and Lindsey had a chance to tie the game with 30 seconds to play but Stefan Juzbasic missed a three-pointer and Pikeville rebounded the ball and sealed the win with four free throws down the stretch.
Pikeville was led by the 25 points of Jeff Ferguson while William Harris added 21 and Justin Hicks scored 13 for the victors. Lindsey Wilson was led by the 21 points of George White and 20 points by Donte’ Williams.
The Blue Raiders end the season with a 16-15 record while Pikeville advances to the 8 p.m. semifinal game against top-ranked Georgetown College.
