What’s New and Green

One of the goals of the Department of Information and Technology Services is to become environmentally friendly. We are constantly finding new and interesting ways to develop “green” habits. Below you will find some helpful information on how to make your computing experience environmentally friendly.

Spreading environmental awareness with e-mail signatures

Using your e-mail signature to spread environmental awareness is a simple way to contribute to a greener world. Your e-mail signature is the salutation portion of your e-mail that typically includes your name, title, address, phone and/or e-mail address. Most e-mail software applications have a feature that allows you to create your own custom signature, which is automatically attached to the e-mails you send out. If you are interested in spreading environmental awareness, below are some instructions on how to locate your signature settings and how to change them to display the following message:

 Please consider the environment before printing this e-mail.

Please note that the viewer of your e-mail signature must have the “WebDings” font installed on their machine for this effect to work. Otherwise, the viewer will only see the letter ‘P’ in a green typeface.

Customizing your signature
