Women’s Cross Country Coaching Staff

A 1988 graduate of Pikeville College, John Biery has been employed at Pikeville College in various roles since 1988 and has been the school’s only Cross Country coach, a position he began eight years ago. As an undergrad, he played for the men’s basketball team.

In his time as Cross Country coach, Biery has coached four runners to eight different appearances in the national Cross Country championship meet and, in 2004, was named NAIA Region XI Coach of the Year.

Biery graduated from Bishop David High School in Louisville in 1984, and received a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Pikeville. He has been employed at the college since his graduation. In addition to coaching the cross country teams, he is Assistant to the Vice President of Student Services. Additionally, he is the current president of the Pikeville College Alumni Association.

John and his wife Melissa, the director of radiology at Highlands Regional Medical Center, reside in Pikeville with their children, Jordan and Sara.
