Bill Watson begins his 13th season as head coach of the Lady Bears after four years as an assistant in the men’s program.

During his first season, the Lady Bears were KIAC Champions, played in the NAIA National Tournament for the first time and produced the school’s first 20-win season. Watson was named 1997-98 Coach of the Year in the KIAC and again in 1999-2000. Watson was named 2002-2003 NAIA Coach of the Year by the Women's Basketball Coaching Association after leading the Lady Bears to a 24-win season, the most in school history, and their second appearance in the national tournament. He was also named 2002-2003 Coach of the Year by the Mid-South Conference.

A member of the Pikeville College Class of 1995, Watson graduated Magna Cum Laude and holds a dual teaching certification in regular education (K-4) and special education (K-12).

Before coming to Pikeville, he was an assistant coach at Paris High School for eight years and Walton-Verona High School for three years. A former high school and collegiate fast-pitch softball umpire, Watson officiated in the KHSAA state tournament in 1997 and 1999.

Bill and his wife Betty reside in Paintsville and are the proud parents of two daughters, Kasi and Blair.
