Second-half runs lift Georgetown past Bears - March 7, 2009
FRANKFORT, Ky. Top-seeded Georgetown College used a 14-2 run midway through the second half to break open a tight contest and beat fourth-seeded Pikeville College 77-53 on Saturday in the Mid-South Conference Men’s Basketball Tournament semifinal at the Frankfort Civic Center.
Georgetown (27-3) advances to the MSC Tournament finals on Sunday against the second-seeded University of the Cumberlands. Tip-off is set for 3:30 ET on Sunday. The matchup will mark the third straight season that Georgetown and Cumberlands will play for the championship. Georgetown won both previous meetings. Click here to read more
Fitzgerald leads Pats past Bears - February 28, 2009
PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Senior Luke Fitzgerald poured in 30 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead 12th-ranked Cumberlands past Pikeville 79-71 Saturday afternoon.
The win gives the Patriots the two seed in next week’s Mid-South Conference tournament in Frankfort. Cumberlands finished the regular season 24-6 overall, 9-3 in the Mid-South Conference. Click here to read more
Third-ranked Mountain State rolls past Bears - February 26, 2009
BECKLEY, W.Va. – Third-ranked Mountain State had no problem with Pikeville on Thursday night, rolling to a 97-71 win at the Raleigh County Armory.
The Cougars improved to 25-3 on the season, while the Bears lost in their second straight outing for 20 wins, falling to 19-10. Click here to read more
Five in double figures as Tech downs Bears - February 21, 2009
MONTGOMERY, WVa. – West Virginia University Tech put five players in double figures and survived an onslaught of fouls to knock off Pikeville College 86-71 Saturday afternoon.
WVU Tech (19-9, 5-5 in the Mid-South Conference) survived 21 turnovers to knock off Pikeville, in all likelihood eliminating the Bears’ chances of cracking the nation’s Top 25. Click here to read more
