Nursing Curriculum

Nursing credit hours are earned by both lecture and clinical/skills laboratory instruction. One clock hour of lecture instruction is 50 minutes and equates to one semester credit hour. One clock hour of clinical/skills laboratory instruction is 60 minutes. Three clinical/skills laboratory clock hours equate to one semester credit hour. Depending on the length of lecture or clinical instruction, time may be added to the required clock hours to accommodate lunch and other breaks.

Note: Some clinical affiliating agencies require a criminal background check of current nursing students. These agencies have the right to deny clinical placement at their facility if the student has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor.

An applicant for RN licensure must submit a criminal background check to the Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN). KBN has the power to delay or deny a nursing graduate the right to take the NCLEX-RN if the applicant for licensure has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor which bears directly on the qualifications of the applicant to practice nursing.

Students who are admitted to the program are expected to purchase uniforms, liability insurance, provide proof of a criminal background check within the last six months, current CPR certification, TB skin test (or chest X-ray with positive TB reading), a current physical examination signed by a physician or nurse practitioner and documentation of Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Hepatitis B and Varicella immune status. Students are responsible for all costs related to documentation of clinical requirements and transportation to clinical agencies.
